Welcome to our school garden!

The A.M. Winn School Garden was started in 2000 by teacher and agricultural extraordinaire Tim Henry. In 2004, Tim Henry passed on the management of the garden to me – third grade teacher Nathaniel Melman. The garden has always followed an organic approach in many areas,
which doesn't
just mean that we don't use chemicals. It is very much a child centered garden. As such, with children researching, brainstorming, problem solving and experimenting with ideas and hypotheses, the way things get done doesn't always fall in line with normative agricultural methods. This is one of the beautiful things about our garden. Children have the freedom to take ownership and develop a sense of stewardship for this wondrous and magical place. With the help of the students, parents and teachers of A.M. Winn, we have created a special and unique oasis for growth and hands on learning on our campus.
A.M. Winn is a K-6 elementary school of the Sacramento City School District.
