Oral Proficiency - Official Definition - Speakers are able to express themselves through the logical organization of their ideas and information to inform others on a particular topic. The speaker demonstrates command of the content through extemporaneous delivery in polished formal presentations that use the rhetorical strategies of narration, exposition, persuasion and/or description.
Oral communication skills are very useful in school and are of particular importance when entering and advancing in a career. In an interview and on the job, you will need to present information and ideas effectively.
NOTE: Please avoid using PowerPoints for this outcome. They add additional clicking, require opening a new program & really do not demonstrate your skills very well.
Examples of oral communication skills include:
- Oral Presentation Rubrics on which you scored well.
Certificates/Awards. - Letters of commendation from speaking engagements.
- Report cards/grades from speech classes.
- Pictures of yourself while speaking publicly.
Oral Proficiency
Public speaking will come in handy because doing presentations is required everywhere in real world situations. At New Tech, students get good at presenting in front of audiences. We do it all the time.
This learning outcome is very helpful because it helps build courage so you can speak better in front of people.
The following is a picture of me and my group members presenting in American Studies class. We are required to wear professional dress on presentation days.
Below you will find a copy of a speech I wrote for Debate Class which I presented to my peers.
Debate Speech:
Hello ladies and gentlemen of United States. I, the senator of America want to announce a message that will change the lives of many people of the United States including others countries as well. United States and many other countries has become one completely ever since when we become alley with them. Now we, the United States have a chance on going into China and are their alley. We should take the chance and risk it, but if China refused to be friend with us, we will take control over China and make China one of the biggest places for our military force. If China accepted the agreement and later on betray us, we will conquer China to be under our rules, just like Panama who first was an alley of us and later on betray us so that’s why we took control over Panama by using force. We were just attempting to aid them but they went against our will and wanted to destroy us so we decided to take the action before hand. Anyone who wants to go against us, we will crush them down like a wall that been break through. Then later on, we thought that the Hawaii needs some aid so we wanted to help by making an agreement but their Queen refused our aid so we over thrown her out of her throne. So I think that we should be alley with China first and if they refused, we will do what we have to do.
Hawaii was one of the countries that we wanted to be ours because we need its aid. We wanted Pearl Harbor to be a navy bases for us so we wanted a treaty sign by them but they refused and go against us. It make us mad because we try being nice and talk to them but what we got back was unacceptable. The Queen of Hawaii refused and gather plan to break us because they are not accepting any business with us no matter what. We ponder that if other countries conquer them, we will be easily invaded because they are located so near us. We can be invaded anytime so we always wanted to be the one who take action first before any other countries can. That is the reason why we overpower the queen, make her renounce her position as queen because we thought that Hawaii is not autonomy, and will not be able to rule them selves without the help from us. It’s not our fault for doing this, it her own for refusing business with us who needed Pearl Harbor as one of our navy bases for militaries and refueling station. The reason that we annex and took over Pearl Harbor is because it is in the middle of the ocean plus it a good location to build a military navy bases and it is near us, the United States of America. We did what we should do and what is best for us only, so we conquer Hawaii to be under control by us.
