38 - Hair in Photoshop - Stroke a Line with the Brush



Step #1: Hair Color
Create a new layer between your sketch layer and your face color layer and name it hair color

Get the Pen Tool

Connect-the-dots around your hair.
When you get back to where you began, close the shape.
Step #2: Adjust the Line ~
Ctrl+Click the line to activate it.
Now you can add Anchor Points
Step #2: Adjust the Line ~
Hold the Ctrl key down and drag the anchor points to make curves.
Adjust the Bezier by holding the Ctrl key down, too.
Step #3: Set the Brush ~
Click the Brush Tool

Click the Brush Preset Picker
Select a brush style and size
Set your color to default by hitting the letter "d"

Step #4: Stroke the Line ~
Right-Click on the line with the Pen Tool and select Stroke Path

Select Brush
There are many variations to this technique.
Step #5: Paths ~
Go to: Window > Paths and click on the layer
You can stroke the path by clicking here

Step #6: Try Different Brushes ~
Click on the Brush Picker
Try different brushes with your lines.
Step #8: Color your Hair ~
Color your hair with the Brush Tool
Or, you can use the Paint Bucket
to fill in your hair with the color of your choice.
Step #8: Smudge Tool ~
Get the smudge tool

Try smudging your hair to make it look better.
