Flash Tutorial 2 of 5 - Coloring in Flash: Using Paint Bucket & Gradients

Step #1: Open your Project from Last Time:

. Make a new layer between the outline layer and the background layer.

. Click the Paint Bucket Tool

. Next, change the Fill Color to your desired color and set the Stroke Color to "null."

...and click to fill the area.

HEY! It isn't working! I'm clicking and it doesn't fill! What's wrong?

Unless the area is completely encircled by the outline, the fill might won't work.

You have 2 choices:

  • 1) Close the gaps - Adjust your lines!
  • Hover your mouse over the edge of a line & watch for the 1/2 circle that appears right below the cursor. That means it's ready to stretch your shape.
    .

    Grab the line an drag it until it touches the line near it to close the gaps. Then try filling again.

 

 

 

 

  • 2) Adjust the fill settings.

    Click on the "Options" circle as select your setting.
    .

    Note: A combination of these techniques usually works to speed up the coloring process.

Step #2: Paint with Brush~

. Select the Brush Tool.

. Click on the Options icon and select "Paint Behind" for the brush.

. Paint your character.
