Graduation Requirements: Our Path to Success

Below are the graduation requirements for Sacramento New Technology High School. These graduation requirements are based upon the "recommended " requirements of the UC A-G Guide and have been established to ensure that all graduates meet the most rigorous of college entrance requirements, as well as to provide each student with a skill set for success in the 21st century.

New Tech wants all graduates to have as many opportunities as possible available to them. This means being prepare for the UC or CSU systems. Though students at New Tech need 240 credits to graduate, it is expected that most students will be able to complete 300 credits.


Each New Tech Student must complete 260 credits in the following:

English - 4 years 40 credits
History - 4 years 40 credits
Math - 3 years beyond Algebra I 30 credits
Passage of the Algebra End of Course Exam
Science - Biology, Chemistry, Physics 30 credits
Technology Course 10 credits
Fine Arts - Digital Media 10 credits
Foreign Language 20 credits
Physical Education 20 credits
Advisory 20 credits
College Prep Electives 10 credits
12 Junior College Units (30 H.S. Credits) 30 credits
Passage of the CAHSEE: English and Math
Completion of:  
Internship of 50 hours  
Senior Project  
40 Hours Community Service  
Professional Portfolio  
TOTAL 260 credits

New Tech highly recommends 4 years of math, 3 years of laboratory science, and 3 years of Foreign language to provide the best chance of gaining admission to the CSU or University of California systems.

College Credit:

Twelve units of classes are to be completed at the community college. These units are to be "general ed" requirement classes that are approved for transfer to the CSU or UC systems. A waiver may be obtained if a class is not on the transfer list but fits in with a career plan/path listed on the student's Individualized Learning Plan.

Students with unique interests are encouraged to seek coursework that supports certification or post high school employment goals. Students are also encouraged to complete breadth (general education) requirements for college prior to high school graduation.

Internships:

Students will be eligible for and required to take a one semester internship of at least fifty hours. This internship should be in an area related to their career/ academic goals.

Senior Project:

Seniors will complete a more in depth Senior Project comprised of at least fifty hours over one semester. The Social Science/English teachers will make provisions for release from some class assignments to provide time for this project. The project will be part of the student's grade for that class as well as a critical component of Senior Exhibitions required for graduation.  The Senior community service project may generally be aligned with the student's internship.

Community Service:

All students must complete a community service project each year. The community service project will be coordinated by their advisor and will be undertaken at whichever time the student and her/ his advisor feels is appropriate. The project should take at least ten hours.

Professional Portfolio:

Each student creates a Professional Portfolio accessible from the internet for writings, projects, resumes & college applications.  Students demonstrate their competency of the learning outcomes in this portfolio and this exhibition is a major motivational tool to insure continued growth throughout Senior year.

Parents:
