Dear Students and Parents:
I would like to invite all parents and students to investigate the New Tech Facebook "Fan Page". One must have a Facebook account to participate, but once registered students and parents can view photos and vidoes posted by the school. We are exploring expansion of this tool as a way for community building. Here is the link to our Facebook page:
At the top of the page, you will see a link that says, "Become a fan." If you click it, you will become a fan of our page. (This is, of course, depends on you having a Facebook account already.)
I would also like to make sure all parents know that the school calendar linked to the SCUSD New Tech website is dynamic and reflects events as they are added to the calendar. Feel free to check it for up coming events.
New Tech students will be bringing home a school wide fundraiser of the year: Incedible Edibles! This sale supports the Parent Booster Club and their efforts to support students at New Tech. Students will have until October 9th to sell and will need to turn in their orders by Monday October 12th. What is nice about this company is that they reward YOU for every five items sold by your child. Their cookies are quite good and come pre-portioned and can be cooked one at a time if necessary. Students can also earn money for prizes! Order forms will be passed out Tuesday in a short assembly.
Reminder to parents that the end of the quarter looms (October 9th) and students wil Biology, PE, Spanish, Digital Media, and Physical Science will be awarding 5 credits and students should be sure that they have the grade they need on their transcripts.
For tenth grade parents October 14th is the PSAT. This Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test is designed to give students an idea of where they are in their preparation for college as well as whether or not they might qualify for taking the test as an 11th grade student. Juniors invited to take the test can qualify for great scholarships as National Merit Scholars!
The Career Conversation this week is "Careers in Law" and our guest will be Luis Cespedes, Esq. Students interested should see Elyna for a pass to attend.

UCLA Idea Comes to New Tech: UCLA Idea or the Institute for Democracy, Education and Access (IDEA) has asked New Tech to be a part of a state wide study of schools. IDEA supports and studies educational innovations that promise to correct persistent educational inequalities. This is quite an honor as they looked at all of the schools in the state of California, narrowed it to 60 schools, visited all 60 to select 10 and we are one of the ten!
S.H.A.R.E Cards: If you shop at FoodMax and Save Mart supermarkets the PTSA can earn up to 3% if you use one of the school's S.H.A.R.E Cards. If you need one have your child pick one up in the font office for immediate use.
