Personal Statement

My Story

I moved to the U.S. when I was about six. I went to preschool and kindergarten in Mexico, this made first grade difficult for me because I had to learn to speak English. Luckily for me my teacher was bilingual; this made it easier for me to learn and taught me that teachers are there to help you. Another thing I learned in first grade was not to play soccer near the stairs; you might break your nose.

I was born May 7, 1992. I lived in Mexico for the first six years of my life, and then I moved to LA for about a year and finally to Sacramento, where I have been ever since. However in the summers my family visits our relatives in Mexico. My family is very supportive and encouraging to me because they believe in me.

Growing up I didn’t have many friends because I was more focused on my education than being social. The few friends I did have were all and still are special to me today. I have had all sorts of friends and always try to pick friends that will support me, not lead me through the wrong path. The friends I’ve had have turned me into who I am. They have helped me when I needed help and I have returned the favor by helping them and being there when they need me like they have been there for me.

Even then, focusing on my studies I didn’t find anything that interested me as a future job. As I kept growing older I discovered that that I am pretty good with math and that I enjoy science. This discovery now makes me think that I want to become an engineer, math teacher or a scientist. As I focus on getting good grades here in high school, I dream of becoming a successful person in the world through my career choice.
