Students at New Tech are empowered to a much greater degree than at other schools. This partially results from the nature of powerful teaching and learning. Also by design.
Student government will be very involved in running the school (student representation will be required for all committees and a student representative will be on the advisory board), being involved in dispute resolution, and also setting discipline standards.

Student Demographics:
The goal or the recruitment process at Sacramento New Technology High School is to reflect the diversity of the district in both culture and economics as closely as possible. Students are recruited for New Tech from all areas of the city and an emphasis is placed on personalizing the recruitment process.
Community:
Due to the unique historical and neighborhood circumstances of Freeport Manor, community based schooling is considered a vital component of New Tech. New Tech will guarantee admission for a small area bounded by 35th Avenue to the North, Belleau Wood to the West, Freeport Boulevard to the East, and 43rd Avenue to the South.
