A.M. Winn Elementary School is committed to the idea that every child will
learn. We provide an
excellent academic program within a supportive environment for each child.
With a clear focus on increasing attendance, improving behavior, and raising
academic achievement, the Winn staff empowers students with necessary skills and
attitudes to believe in themselves as capable individuals. The use of technology
enhances skill development, as well as integrating thematic units of study that
bring together all subject areas. Parents are an integral part of planning for
student progress.
Special programs at Winn include: fully equipped computers networked in
classrooms, cross- age and peer tutoring, writers' workshops, Young Authors'
Program, Student of the Month recognition, "Winn"er store incentives, language
development classes, Student Conflict Managers, Student Council, SMART KIDS
volunteer tutors, psychologist, after-school tutoring three times per week.
Parent leadership opportunities include School Site Council, Bilingual Advisory
Council, and as volunteers.
START, a three-hour after-school program, free of charge, is designed to support
the school literacy effort, help students complete homework, and extend their
learning. Good attendance and effort are required.

needs of our community.
