WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
It is an honor and a privilege to join the community of A.M. Winn Elementary as your principal for the 2008 – 2009 school year. Our teachers, school staff, and I are all looking forward to working closely with you to make this a happy, productive, challenging academic year for each of your children.
Last year was an exciting one for A.M. Winn as our students, families, teachers and staff received several awards for their efforts. The school was one of 11 in the Sacramento region to receive a 2007 Title I Academic Achievement Award from the State of California. We were also recognized for achievement as a Silver On the Move School and by our School District for excellent attendance. These accomplishments provide a great foundation to build upon as we go into the new school year.
Whether you are new to our school community or have been here longer than even our most veteran teachers, we are excited about your family’s involvement at our school. Please mark your calendars now for Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 17, at 6:00. That night our community will first gather together to meet our Parent Teacher Organization leaders and learn about our developing Family Center, learn a little about me as your new principal, and then meet with your children’s teachers in their classrooms to discuss the academic opportunities this school year holds for our students at A.M. Winn. We’ll send out more details closer to the 17th.
Until then, if you have any questions as we start up the year or in the months to come, please feel free to call 916-228-5880 or come into the office between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. I also encourage you to plan some time with me if you’d like to sit down and talk about your children and our school community… just call the school office or email me at jill-tabachnick@sac-city.k12.ca.us.
The teachers, school staff, and I are all committed to serving and supporting our students’ families in making this an excellent year for each child in our learning community at A.M. Winn. We not only welcome, but rely on your input to make this happen best for each of your children. Thank you in advance for everything you will do this year to support your children’s success.
Jill S. Tabachnick, J.D.
Principal
