What's New . . .
PTSO Election:
The slate of volunteers for next year's PTSO Board will be presented at Open House on May 30th: Kristin Stuart, President; Shannon Huddy, Vice President; Ann Gregory, Secretary; Michele Payne, Treasurer; and Ginger Stimac, Auditor. Parliamentarian will be appointed by the President. Also on the agenda will be approval of Bylaws amendments to reflect current practices, including the Historian's duties to be absorbed by the Secretary, and budget approval for the Computer Lab so that work can proceed during the summer. The Bylaws will be made available here on the website.
Jog-a-thon:
Start practicing for the annual Jog-a-thon, which will be Friday morning, June 1st. During this popular event, students will make a pledge to jog laps for 15 minutes. They will be seeking sponsors for their efforts to stay physically fit and raise funds for Caleb's Computer Lab and other needs. Pledge forms are being sent home next week and will be made available here on the website. This is a very exciting event for students, so please encourage their efforts.
Spring Fiesta:
Last Friday's Spring Fiesta was a great success! Thanks to Stephanie Eickmeyer, Ginger Stimac, Lynette Nordstrom, Kelly Cordero, Lori Morris, Jennifer Lux, Shannon Huddy, Ann Gregory, Kristin Stuart, Tamara Toby, Michele Payne, Edda Pyle, Mandi Sittarich, Pam Burton, Alison Tubo, Evan Eickmeyer, art auctioneer Ryan Toby, cupcake auctioneer Chris Morris, all other volunteers, all who donated or made auction items, and all who attended.
Auction:
Two prizes were donated just before the Spring Fiesta, so they are now being auctioned on eBay. First, a glass making experience for 2 people to each make an art glass paperweight at Girl Glass Studio on Freeport Blvd. Second, a 1-hour massage at Inner Sanctum Massage Therapy on Alhambra Blvd. Visit < http://www.ebay.com/ > and search for "Caleb Greenwood." Bidding ends before dawn on May 19th.
State Testing begins the week of April 30th for Grades 2 - 8:
Our state standardized testing period begins next week and the following are some important reminders:
- Testing begins right away and if students are late they will have to sit in office until testing period is over at 10:00AM. Students will then have to make up tests they missed.
- Students should get plenty of rest the night before so they are refreshed and able to focus.
- While we do provide a snack about half way through the testing period, students should eat breakfast. If they don’t have time to do so at home, our cafeteria is open and serves breakfast at 7:30.
- Students need to be reassured that we do not want them to be stressed about the testing. While testing is important and we do expect that they do their best, they should understand it is okay if they don’t know an answer, to not get upset but just go to the next problem.
Online Payment Service for Student Lunches to Launch:
Starting February 1, SCUSD families will be able to pay for student meals online, which will streamline lunchtime cafeteria service, reduce long lines and eliminate risks associated with the handling of cash. Through the mySchoolBucks.com online payment system, parents can electronically deposit lunch money directly into SCUSD's cafeteria fund bank account. The service uses a "super-secure" data center with a 128-bit encryption for confidentiality. Families will be able to prepay for as many meals as they wish using a credit or debit card. A $2 fee will apply. A link to this program will be available at www.scusd.edu.

New District Enrollment Procedures:
Beginning on July 5, 2011, SCUSD will open its new Enrollment Center, a one-stop resource for families. In the past, parents and guardians of new students and transfer students enrolled their children at their neighborhood school. This practice will no longer be in effect after July 5. Parents and guardians of all new students (including Kindergarten students) will now enroll their children at the Enrollment Center located in the former Genesis High School next to the Serna Center (5601 47th Ave.). In addition to enrollment services, the new center will also handle Intradistrict and Interdistrict Permit applications and renewals, will include an on-site immunization clinic, language-assessment/translation services and information about support resources. For hours of operation, a list of documentation needed for enrollment and other information, please visit our web site at www.scusd.edu/enrollmentcenter or call 916-643-2400.
Lost & Found Reminder:
Please be sure to write your child's name on clothing such as coats and sweaters and on lunchboxes. When our lost & found bin gets full, we look for names so that lost items can be returned to owners, then items are donated to our District Clothes Closet.
