Small Learning Community

Business Industries

Are you ambitious and achievement oriented?  Are you naturally a “people  person”, finding it easy to meet and talk with new acquaintances?  Do you enjoy planning and directing the activities of people or an organization?

When you join the Business Small Learning Community at McClatchy High School, in addition to studying the usual subjects like Math, English, Science or History you will also have the opportunity to learn about careers that can involve the responsibility, creativity, rewards, and fast pace of business management or ownership.  By exploring jobs in fields like Accounting, Food Services, Information Technology, Insurance, Marketing, and Real Estate you will be able to connect what you are learning in the classroom to how you might use it after you graduate.  Throughout your four years at McClatchy we will provide you opportunities to make these connections.  You will hear speakers from many business professions, you can spend time shadowing people employed in interesting jobs, you’ll take tours of companies, and in 11th or 12th grade, you will even have a chance to work in one of these industries if you would like.  We look forward to welcoming you to McClatchy High School and the Business SLC.
