The MIEN CULTURE AND CELEBRATION

The picture to your left shows Mien people in traditional clothing, a Shaman, and a Mien new year celebration.

The culture and ethnicity of the Mien families is to honor the tradition that was passed on from family to family, but the culture really came from their home in Thailand and it came to the United States.  In every Mien family the father of the house must perform a offing by killing an animal chicken and pig he also must burn paper money to help the shaman to remove the bad spirit from a family member or the house.

This is the most important thing in the Mien tradition because the shaman is the doctor and he can also travel to the under world with a offing of animals to the gods he helps the family.  A shaman is picked by a spirit in his/she  dream and some shaman is young but most are old.

The Mien new year celebration is like a reunion for the mien people and come together to celebrate a different animal year.  On the year it has great food and great entertainment for the people to enjoy the year is mostly on the month of February and it take three day to finish the year at Cal Expo.

The clothing of the Mien people is made of a black fabric sew with picture  and big red turban on the top of the clothing when the mien women wears the clothing with jewelry it looks beautiful but it is heavy to wear they wear it to the mien new year always.

I have learn a lot of new things in Ms. Godina's class this year but I learned the most  about my culture and how great it is and I found out more things on it . I want to thank my teacher for letting me to learn more about different cultures, topics, and regions. What I learned is my culture is great to know about and I hope you enjoyed reading it.
