School Garden Project 2003-2004
Last year the David Lubin School Garden Project continued growing by leaps and bounds. Working along side two Master Gardeners, Anita Clevenger and Bill Maynard, the project directors developed the teaching garden and involved students year round in garden activities. The wonderful wooden fence was built by a local Boy Scout, Colby Salmon, as part of his Eagle Scout project and the gates by a very talented Uncle of two David Lubin Students.
This Year (our 3rd) the team will continue it's partnership with the Master Gardeners and expand the yeaching garden to include raised beds, a potting bench and art work. We will be exploring the cultural "roots of food and hope" to include classoroom cooking demonstrations. The team is also looking into ways of expanding and enhancing the Peace Grove with additional plantings and classroom seating.
This is a great committee for adults who want to dig into their children's educations both creatively and physically. School gardens touch so man areas of learning from science and math to history, art and creative writing. We accept both financial donations and supplies/plant donations.
