History
in a Trunk
Every
year the Assistance League of Sacramento holds an essay
contest about the Governor’s Mansion entitled “History in a
Trunk” for 4th graders in the Sacramento area.
In January the Assistance League did a presentation to each
of our 4th grade classes about the history of the
Governor’s Mansion. Then, the students wrote a narrative
essay about the Governor’s Mansion for the contest. One
winner was selected from each class, and each class winner
will attend an awards ceremony on May 24th at the
Governor’s Mansion. The class winners for Elder Creek are:
The students, their
family and the teachers will be attending the awards
ceremony on Thursday, May 24th at 3:30.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Congrats
Kelly Zeng!
Kelly Zeng, an Elder Creek 4th Grader, wins the
annual poster contest sponsored by California Association of
Educational Office Professionals. The theme was “What I
like best about my school…” In an interview with Ms. Zeng,
she says her school is best. She also said, “I like my

school.”

Sixth
Grade Parents: Bring Proof of Tdap Booster to School
Parents and guardians of sixth graders:
Please bring proof to school that your child has received
the Tdap booster for tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough.
Without this documentation, children may not be allowed to
start middle school next fall. If your child has not
received this important vaccine, please schedule an
appointment with your health provider now. Visit
www.scusd.edu/tdap for more information.
How to Enroll your child All
enrollments for new and transferring students are done
at the Enrollment Center. The Enrollment Center was
created as a one-stop resource to service families
seeking resources and information when enrolling their
children in our district. Families are able to enroll
students, submit transfer and open enrollment
applications, have questions answered, receive
pre-testing services and benefit from the onsite
immunization clinic.
Check Out SCUSD's Language Immersion Programs Give
your child a competitive edge in the global economy by
enrolling them in one of SCUSD's language immersion
programs. In language immersion classrooms, students have
the enriching experience of becoming bi-literate in English
and another language -- Chinese, Hmong or Spanish. Four
schools offer Spanish immersion or bilingual programs
(Edward Kemble, Cesar Chavez, Ethel Phillips and Bowling
Green Chacon campus); Elder Creek and William Land have
Chinese immersion programs; and Susan B. Anthony will open
in the fall with a new Hmong immersion program.

Chinese Immersion program.
