New Health Field Offerings!
This Fall, Old Marshall and Florin Tech are extending their offerings in the health field with two new short classes, phlebotomy and electrocardiography (click links for PDF's). Both of the classes are designed for health care. professionals such as EMT's, RN's, and medical assistants. Offered in cooperation with Boston Reed, the courses are being offered in September 2008 and January 2009.
Electrocardiography, offered September 27, 2008, and January
24, 2009, is an 8 hour EKG / ECG training program. The fast paced course
is designed to provide instruction in electrocardiography testing procedures
used in detecting heart disease and other cardiovascular disorders. This
one day course provides instruction in :
-EKG unit operation & troubleshooting.
-Lead placement utilizing 12 lead EKG.
--Understanding EKG grid paper.
-Recognizing normal and abnormal EKG patterns in all 12 leads.
-Plotting EKG axis.
-Course material is presented through lecture and hands-on participation.

Phlebotomy, offered September 13-14, 2008 and January 10-11,
2009, is a 2 day (16- hour) course designed to provide instruction in the
art of drawing blood for medical professionals. This course is appropriate
for current medical assistants, emergency medical technicians, vocational
nurses, registered nurses and medical doctors who use or plan to use phlebotomy
skills within their scope of practice. Students will become proficient in
vein puncture with syringe, vacutainer, butterfly and finger stick methods
built upon a foundation of basic principles of venous anatomy, physiology
and sterile technique. (This course does not allow students to work
in public health clinics, or perform their skills in a laboratory. For public
health clinics or laboratories a certification course is required for employment.)

- Citizenship- Learn what you need to pass your interview and test to become an American citizen
- GED- morning and evening classes to improve the essential skills of reading, writing, and mathematics
About Florin Technology Center
The mission of the Florin Technology Education Center is to enrich the lives of adults and youth by providing a learning environment for academic and vocational training thereby, empowering them to become contributing and economically independent members of their communities.
The Florin Technology Education Center is a public adult school operated by the Sacramento City Unified School District. The Technology Education Center is located on the corner of 24th and Florin, on Florin Road. Free parking is available on the school grounds for all students and the center is served by Regional Transit.
