Student Resources

Golden Empire has a dedicated group of individuals who support the curriculum in a variety of ways.  Our students have the privilege of weekly experiences in library, computer lab and physical education.  For students who are identified as needing assistance, there is the added support of a resource specialist.

Computer Lab - Mr. Frankenberger
Library - Mrs. Perry
Physical Education -  Mrs. Oltmanns
Resource Specialist - Mrs. Moore

Computer Lab

It is hard to believe that this year is the beginning of my seventh year here at Golden Empire.  I remember my first day in the computer lab.  We didn't have any programs on the computers.  We didn't have any head phones. In fact, because the computers were not networked, every program that we purchased had to be individually loaded on each computer.

Well, we have come a long way since then. Our lab provides curriculum support for math and language arts through Orchard and Cornerstone software.  It supports class reports and projects with online access to educational material.  Additionally, it allows our students to practice using Microsoft applications like Word and PowerPoint.  A bonus for our students is access to the student resource page on our school web site so that students can access many of the same programs at home.

Library

Library News – March 2008

Library Book Bingo is in full swing!  We have 32 Bingo winners from our third – sixth graders.  We have five who are working on Blackout.  To get Bingo a student must read six books, each from a different genre, write a book review and submit it to the library.  When six in a row are complete – it’s B-I-N-G-O!  Those brave students who go on to get Blackout will have read 36 library books and written 36 book reviews!  They deserve a great prize and a new book, and that is just what they get.  Encourage your students to read.  Reading is the key to education.

The PTO has bought the library 80 new books and I have just cataloged them in to our system.  Thank you so much for your support of the PTO.  They do so much for the library.  Have a Super Spring and spend some time with a good book.

Physical Education

March 24th is the first day of our Running Club.  It is for 30 minutes after school (2:00 - 2:30) every Monday and Wednesday and will "run" through April 30.  Everyone is welcome to join: parents, teachers, staff and 4th - 6th grade students.  Remember to wear comfortable running shoes, appropriate clothing, sun block and  a water bottle (if you want to).

Its time for Fitness Testing! 5th Graders will be taking their Fitnessgram Fitness Test which is a state mandated test. They will be tested on Push-ups, Curl-ups, Flexibility, body Mass Index, and Cardiovascular Endurance (Running test). We practiced in October and set goals! Let's see our 5th graders SOAR in Physical Fitness. 4th and 6th graders will also be tested. 4th grade students are practicing for next year and 6th graders are reviewing for 7th grade. The Fitnessgram Fitness Test is administered in 5th, 7th, and 9th grades. 9th graders have to pass 5 out of 6 components to complete their P.E. requirement in High School! So work out, play, and get active with your kids! :)

Primary students (grades 1-3) are working on ball rolling skills this month and refining jump rope skills! Remember ALL KIDS need 60 minutes of activity every single day!

Resource Specialist

I have been in charge of the Resource Specialist Program at Golden Empire for eleven years.  I have a new part-time aide, Linda, and an as-needed aide, Lynn.  We are currently operating as a learning center.  That means I serve students that have been identified with special needs, as well as those students who need additional curriculum support.
