This program will provide the initial class an opportunity to develop as a team, creating a focus on goals for the next four years at the Health Professions High School.

Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA)
Local HOSA chapters provide programs and activities to help individuals develop their physical, mental and social well-being. Members strengthen their leadership and citizenship abilities through interaction with professional, business and other student organizations.
HOSA is not a club to which a few students in school join. Rather, HOSA is a powerful instructional tool that works best when it is integrated into the curriculum and classroom.
HOSA members are involved in community-oriented, career-related and leadership development activities. Students from all local chapters may choose to attend regional and statewide conferences for leadership training and chapter management workshops. Participation in HOSA competitive events test and recognize students’ competencies and related skills in various health occupations.
Cross Age Tutoring
We will partner with Jedediah Smith Elementary School to provide cross-age tutoring to elementary students. Extensive research supports the powerful effects of cross-age tutoring. Both the high school and elementary groups realize remarkable gains in the subject area they are mentoring or teaching.
Guided Study Tours/ Job Shadows / Internships
Our fantastic partners realize the importance of investing in local youth. From the beginning our partners have assisted with the Health Professions High School Design. Each will provide incredible resources to the school from guided study tour sites to collegiate mentors that are currently enrolled in post-secondary healthcare programs.
HPHS students will receive a rich education, full of field trips, guest speakers and finally a network of professionals they can call upon as they strive for excellence after high school.
Fine Arts
Our drama club is exciting and fun. Our Fine Arts program is designed around the performing
arts - meaning
Drama, Chorus and Dance will be a focus for the Fine Arts
classes. This
increases students abilities to remain physically active
throughout
their high school experience.
Intramural Sports
The HPHS has an excellent intramural sports program - giving all students the opportunity to have fun with athletic competition within the small high school. Our school community will be focused on encouraging students to live healthy, active lives - with an emphasis on wellness. We plan on adding volleyball, soccer and basketball in small competitive leagues, 2006-2007
Competitive Sports (CIF)
Students who wish to compete in traditional sports (between schools) may do so at their school of residence. Meaning - if you live in the McClatchy attendance area, your son or daughter could participate in a McClatchy competitive sports program. Health Professions High School students will need to meet all the requirements and deadlines of their high school of residence to compete.
