Health Professions High School

History and Purpose

During the fall of 2002 we met with our founding partners to discuss the potential merits of a small healthcare high school for Sacramento. Sacramento was experiencing an extreme shortage of new, qualified healthcare workers and the Sacramento City Unified School District was in the process of developing a network of small, focused high schools.

Essentially an incredible design process was initiated. Since that time, the concept has been researched and refined to its present form. Much attention was placed on existing healthcare high school programs that work – in addition to data on students who are successful in collegiate programs. Today’s Health Professions High School is on the cutting edge of a new generation of small focused high schools – we look forward to sharing the collaborative design process and school model with other communities across the nation.

Designed as a small, safe and supportive high school, the HPHS focuses on assisting students as they develop the educational and social foundation needed to ensure success in college, career, and citizenry. Students study in a safe, structured environment; blending solid academics, applied learning in local health systems and outstanding HOSA leadership activities.

Mission

To provide students with an outstanding education, rich with relevant academic, application and leadership experiences - using healthcare as a theme.

Student Outcomes

HPHS graduates will succeed as highly adaptable professionals due to their exceptional skills, diverse assets and excellent habits of mind.

We will add a new class of freshmen yearly – interested credentialed teachers should e-mail a copy of their resume to Bobbi-Erickson@sac-city.k12.ca.us.

Families may receive an application for their child by calling (916) 264-3262 or by downloading an application from the home page of this website. Simply send the application into the HPHS office listed on the application. We have no entrance, GPA requirements. Download the Registration Form (Acrobat PDF)

Outside SCUSD
Families outside SCUSD are eligible to apply through the Inter-District Attendance Agreement process. First apply at your home school district office, then submit the signed Inter-District Attendance Permit to the SCUSD Student Services Office at (916) 643-9435. Forms are date stamped and students will be admitted based on available spaces.
