We are a school that is strongly committed to students and the concept that all students can learn. We believe that Kit Carson is a place where minds can be opened to learning, where children are allowed to grow, where there is a free interchange of ideas in order that knowledge may flourish. Our targets this year are reading, mathematics, of course attendance, and increased parent involvement.

     Kit Carson invites parents and community participation in school activities, including the School Improvement Committee, School Advisory Committee, English Learners Advisory Committee, Project business, and the PTSA. In addition, Kit Carson participates in the River City Network, a partnership with nine middle schools that fosters sharing of educational ideas that work.

     Students needing specialized instruction may qualify for supplementary programs such as special education, Chapter I, Bilingual Education. Kit Carson has a Gifted and Talented Education Program (G.A.T.E.) for  7th, and 8th grade students. Classes are available in Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies.

     Special assemblies are planned to improve student self-esteem and motivation. Included are recognition for attendance, academic achievement, service, and citizenship, Outstanding Eighth Grade Student, Sacramento Alliance of Black School Educators, Masonic Award of Excellence for Eighth Grade Students, Sacramento Bee Spelling Bee, District Spelling Bee, River City Network Spelling Bee, District Speech Contest, and Mathletes, MESA and Junior Honor Society. . We also offer Soccer, Basketball and various lunch and after school activities such as the G.R.E.A.T. Program, Student Watch club, and a book club. We offer Band for all interested students.

     All of these things help make Kit Carson Middle School a winner.
