Welcome to MLK
Martin Luther King Jr. K-8 is an excellent school. Located in the Pocket-Greenhaven area of South Sacramento, MLK offers coordinated classes from kindergarten through the eighth grade.
In addition to a strong academic program stressing reading, writing and mathematics, students participate in physical education and a vocal music program. Over 100 computers allow students and staff the opportunity to access technology in every classroom as well as in a laboratory environment. Second-language students receive support in learning English, and special education students are supported by an RSP program and a learning handicapped class for intermediate students. A multi-age GATE strand within the day provides the opportunity for identified GATE students to enroll in a class designed to meet their needs.
Parents may also select from a menu of optional extended day programs for their children. Programs in instrumental music, art, science, and athletics allow students to enrich their lives and expand their backgrounds. A fee-based, district-sponsored day care program is also available to parents whose children attend K-6 classes at MLK.
