Who Was O. W. Erlewine???

     O. W. Erlewine was born in Wheeling, West Virginia and received his education there.  Upon completion he received his teaching credential and moved to Carthing, Illinois and started his career in education.

    In 1880 the Erlewine family came to Elk Grove, CA where O. W. Erlewine accepted a teaching job.  After his arrival the salary was so low he was forced to seek other employment, thereby accepting a full time job with  the Evergreen Grocery store in Elk Grove.  From this position he went to work with the U. S. Post Office in Sacramento and later became assistant Post Master.  During all this time he was a member of the Board of Education.  He left his position on the Board to return to his first love--the schools.  He then became the Superintendent of schools for Sacramento and remained in this position until 1915.

    O. W. was well recognized because of his friendly, affable, personality and had great charm never to be forgotten.
