Behavior Management
In our class behavioral management is based on the card system. Each student is given three color-coded cards: green, yellow, and red. If a student is behaving and doesn’t have to pull a card, he/she will earn one point. I tie this system to earning Eagle Bucks. An Eagle Buck is worth five points. Most students will work toward this behavioral goal since earning Eagle Bucks is very important. It gives the students a sense of pride and accomplishment. If I need to pull a student’s card, the following consequences will occur.
Green Card:
(no points for entire day) - Children will receive a verbal warning about
their behavior.
Yellow Card:
(loss of two days of points) - Parents will receive a note from me.
Red
Card:
(loss of three days of points) - Parents will be called and a conference
will be scheduled.
In addition to the card system, children can also earn Eagle Bucks through cooperative group activities as well as through individual demonstration of outstanding citizenship and pride in the classroom.
Homework Policy:
Students are given about three to four subjects worth of work each evening, Monday through Thursday. Each student will be required daily to write his/her assignments on a homework form. Students are to return the homework form daily and record homework assignments throughout the week. A written book report will be required on the last Wednesday of each month. I will be reviewing this form with the students and have included a copy on this web page . The first book report will be due October 29th. Your student should be able to complete his/her homework assignment within an hour and a half. If your child is experiencing difficulty completing his/her work within this designated time period, please contact me so that we may modify these assignments. Homework Packets are distributed on Monday and are due on Friday. Reading Logs are to be kept and completed each night and returned to me on Friday mornings with parent initials for each nights work. Parents are encouraged to review the week’s assignments and sign that they have seen the work completed. You will find a place to sign on your child’s purple folder. This shows that you are interested in what they are doing as well as insuring that they have done the work.
There will also be several long range assignments given this year which will require work to be done over the weekends. These assignments will hopefully be rewarding and challenging for your child. I will be notifying you well in advance of the due dates.
Regarding a student’s absence and missing homework assignments, students are to complete all homework assignments given in their absence. I only accept one day late papers but in the case of a multiple-day absence, your student has as many days as they were gone to complete the work as well as a weekend. This should provide enough time to do the work without undue anxiety.
Book Reports are due the last Wednesday of each month, beginning October 29th.

Grading
Grading is a composite score based upon homework, participation, daily classroom assignments, assessments, quizzes, and tests.
Parent Expectations:
Our school theme is: “Do Your Best! Reach Your Goal!” At the beginning of the school year each student was required to write a goal he/she wished to accomplish this year. Students, Teachers, and Parents work as a team to assist the student in reaching his/her goal. Please review this goal and help your student monitor his/her progress. Please support your child by being aware of what he/she is doing in class. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me at school at 228-5870 or by e-mail at judydevin@comcast.net.
