Before and After School Programs

The 4th "R", Recreation
The 4th "R" is a before and after school recreational daycare program on campus. We care for Kindergarten through 6th grade. We offer assistance with homework, we have activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, science, sports and games. In addition to being open before and after school, we are open during winter and spring breaks, as well as all summer long. Thank you again so much.
We open at 7 am and close at 6 pm. Contact us at 277-6103.

Before School

Orchestra

Students will begin or continue the adventure of learning the beauty of music. The orchestra focuses on string and woodwind instruments. Students will perform at a variety of school events throughout the year. Typical Ages are between 3rd and 6th Grade, and generally, a modest monthly cost includes rental of an instrument. Extra costs may include music books.

Sutterville Band

Calling all 4th - 5th and 6th grade students to join the Sutterville Band!!! Mr. Stephen Bingen, Director with the Sacramento Youth Band is back.

Sutterville has hosted both a beginning band and second year band program. Beginning Students will receive two lessons per week from Mr Bingen on one of the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet & Trombone.

Students who have experience with Band or are continuing receive two lessons per week and may remain on the same instrument or choose to switch to one of the following: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium or Percussion (drums).

The typical cost is only $30 per month. Each student will need to have their own instrument, If you do not own an instrument, you can easily rent one from a local music store (such as Kline Music). Check with Mr. Bingen for current costs and schedules.

Publication Club

In the past, the club met one hour after school each week.  The students are taught the basics of journalism, including how to conduct an interview, how to write objective articles, editorials, feature stories, and reviews.  Most articles are written during club meeting time.  The editors decide which articles to include, place them in the template for the newsletter, and arrange for printing. 



Nuestra Aventura Espanol (Our Spanish Adventure Club)

Danza Azteca

Folklorico

Sutterville Striders' Running Club

Striders' Running Club is typically held in Fall and also in Spring sessions for all grade levels. The Running Club meets on the field, after school, twice a week, for five weeks. Students in 4thR will be accompanied to the 4thR building at the end of running club.

Any fitness level is welcome—from the novice to the speedster—but whatever the ability at running club, all members will be expected to come ready and willing to run. Coach: Jenny Hitchings, and other parent volunteers, will lead the club.

The program will include:
* Exercises, stretches, running games, and sustained running
* Techniques and training methods
* Nutrition and health tips

Mad Science

Mad Science is an after-school program designed to stimulate children’s interest in science. The program includes lots of hands-on activities that make science interesting and fun for children of all ages. Ages: K through 6th graders

Lango Davis - Spanish and Mandarin Classes

Lango Davis has offered Spanish and Mandarin classes at Sutterville Elementary for all grades. Lango was founded on the belief that every child should learn a second language and uses full immersion classes and Adventure Learning©, an innovative approach that combines stories, music and playacting in an engaging format to teach children languages. Our classes are 45 minutes long and meet once or twice a week.

Scholoarships

Scholarships are available for any child that needs one. To request a scholarship, contact the program coordinator (many of these programs provide scholarships directly).  The PTA also has scholarship funds available (contact your child’s teacher and ask him/her to request the funds from the PTA board). Scholarships do not apply to the 4th R program.
